Troop 865's Bead Tradition

Bead horizontal line

The use of beads and totems started in our Troop before 1974. Beads are awarded to Scouts and Scouters for participation in various Troop activities. Different colored beads represent different activities or weather during an activity.

The totem is a piece of leather shaped like an arrowhead. The image of a Native American Indian is drawn on it. The totem is worn on the belt. Beads are secured to the totem using a piece of leather lacing.

The more beads a person has the more active he has been.
