If you stop to think about it, there are probably several people in your past that you enjoyed pleasing. Maybe it was a coach or a teacher of your favorite subject. Or maybe it was just a teacher or adult that you really enjoyed and got along with. Maybe it is a parent or grandparent that you always especially liked to please?

Consider what that person did for you. Did he/she go out of their way or make sacrifices just to help you?

Consider what sacrifices others have made for you. One thing you can do that will always make your special person proud of you is to do for others what your special person did for you.

Now consider how that person would feel about you and what you've done with your life to this point. Would they be proud and pleased, indifferent, or maybe sad and disappointed? Would they be proud to shout "I taught/coached him/her." Or would it be embarrassing for them?

Now think about God, after all He is our ultimate teacher and His son, Jesus, made the ultimate sacrifice for us, dying on a cross. How do you think He feels about what you've done with your life? Is He pleased or sad? Maybe you haven't done enough? What more could you do?

It's never too late to start trying to please God. Think of something small you could do today to start you in the right direction. What could you do tomorrow and the day after?

It wouldn't hurt to consider what others (especially God) think of you at least once a year. Some special times to hold this annual "state of your life" might be on Easter or New Years Day or your birthday. If you don't like the answer you get, then it's time to make changes in your life. Start out small and build on your successes as you gain confidence and skills.
