‘Twas the night before the DRC Half and all through Norbuck Park,
Only directors Steve and Linda were scurrying around in the dark.
Not a racer in sight, they are all tucked in their beds,
While visions of Sunset Bay finisher medals dance in their heads.
We’ll honor Tal Morrison, who just earned his wings,
And imagine we’re running under Olympic rings.
Teresa’s team is ready, with DRC wares to sell,
Shirts and hats and even a cow bell!
Volunteers all trained by Erin and Suzanna,
Cover every detail to ensure everyone gets a banana.
Coaches Debbie, Mimi, and Vishal have done what they could,
To prepare everyone to finish, just as they should.

All my clothes are laid out in the bathroom with care,
In the hopes of setting a PR, if the weather is fair.
My training is done; all the blood, sweat, and tears;
I followed the training plan, so I have no fears.
Ready to go are my nutrition and hydration;
Set my alarm early, to avoid a traffic citation.
My coach told me, “On race day, do nothing new.”
So for tomorrow’s brunch, I’ll suck down my goo.
The electronics are charging so they won’t fail in the race;
I count on them to help set my pace.
One final check of the weather forecast,
Thank goodness we’re not having a cold Arctic blast!
A last minute review of my pacing strategy:
Start slow to prevent a big race tragedy.
Run the tangents, Ken said, to make the course shorter,
The secret is train hard, but run the race smarter.
Now if only I could bound up the hills like Vishal,
I’d never look back after the starter’s whistle.

Then it’s off to bed for a good night’s sleep.
Can’t wait for tomorrow to see all the peeps!
When out on the street, such a chatter there arose,
It was the 2:30 pace group, 2 by 2 in their rows.
And as they rounded the corner I could hear them say on the run,
“Have a great race tomorrow, but above all have fun!”
