Sometimes especially on long runs, speed work, and races you tend to tense your arms, neck, and shoulders. This prevents your body from moving smoothly. Take the opportunity every couple of miles to drop your hands to your side, shrug or rotate your shoulders and give your arms, shoulders and upper body a couple of shakes to loosen them up. Move your head left and right a couple of times to loosen up your neck.

Reach your hands high above your head in a stretch to help correct and straighten your form.

I've noticed that after I've ascended a particularly difficult hill that I'm more tense. So at the top of hills is another good time to take the opportunity to relax your body.
