I always carry a small emergency bag with me. It probably stems from my days of being a Boy Scout leader.

Use a small snack size baggie to hold the following:

Keep a trash bag in your car for wet or dirty clothes.

It never hurts to carry a cell phone. You never know when someone might get hurt.

Make checklists of things to take for before, during, and after a run or race. If you ever forget to take nutrition, sweatband, hydration, or shoes you won't want to do it again. You usually don't carry a lot of extra stuff on a run and everything you carry is important and has its purpose. You don't want to forget something and not be able to do the run.
